For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, winter officially begins at 8:27pm MST, whereas in the Southern Hemisphere, summer has just begun.

Earth’s axial tilt is the reason for the seasons and the Sun is at its southern most place in the sky today. The days will start to get longer and the nights shorter, as the Sun begins to climb higher in the sky.
