HISTORIC BOULDER EVENING at SBO – Friday, October 20 Enjoy a special evening to celebrate SBO and its historic contributions to the greater Boulder community! No need to RSVP. 5:30-6:30pm - "Sommers-Bausch Observatory and the Origins of Boulder Space Science & Astronomy" - Keith Gleason, Manager, SBO - held in the SBO Classroom, Room S-175 6:30-7:00pm - Walking Tour of the Observatory, Q&A about Telescopes, Astronomy, and/or Anything Else (informal) - SBO Staff (any kids in attendance will get to move the domes and drive the telescopes around!) 7:00-7:15pm - "Public Historical Celestial Events at SBO: Past, Present, & Future" - Keith Gleason, Lab Room S-175 (including information about the upcoming November 8th afternoon Mercury transit of the Sun!) 7:15-7:30pm - [Break, followed by one or more of the following options:] 7:30-8:30pm - "Jupiter & New Horizons" live talk at Fiske Planetarium by Dr. Fran Bagenal 7:30-8:00pm - "Using the 24-Inch Telescope for Student Projects" in the dome of SBO, by ASTR 3520 Astronomy Students (informal presentation and discussion) 8:00-11:00pm Friday Night Open House Star Party (weather permitting) using the three major SBO telescopes, and hosted by APS (Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences Department) Graduate Students and Faculty (Fiske attendees are welcome to join us at any time) 8:45-9:00pm - "Learning the Constellations and Bright Stars" by Kris Spinden on the open Observing Deck at SBO (weather permitting)
